We stand behind the health of every puppy we produce. Our guarantee covers congenital and hereditary conditions, with special attention to Cane Corso–specific health concerns, including hip and elbow dysplasia and other structural or genetic issues common in large-breed dogs.
1. Pre-Sale Health Protocols
Every Cane Corso puppy leaves our program having completed the following veterinary protocols:
- Complete physical examination by a licensed veterinarian
- Age-appropriate vaccinations (DHPP series) with documented records
- Deworming protocol at 2, 4, 6, and 8 weeks of age
- Microchip implantation with registration transferred to the buyer
- Fecal examination for internal parasites
- Evaluation of eyes, ears, coat, hips, elbows, joints, and overall structural health
- Health certificate issued within 72 hours of departure

3. Genetic Health Guarantee — 2 Years
Playful Cane Corso Puppies provides a two (2) year genetic health guarantee from the date of birth against life-threatening congenital or hereditary defects.
Covered Conditions Include:
- Hip Dysplasia (moderate to severe, confirmed by veterinary orthopedic evaluation)
- Elbow Dysplasia (confirmed by veterinary specialist)
- Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA)
- Congenital heart defects (confirmed by a board-certified cardiologist)
- Severe patellar luxation (Grade 3 or higher)
- Congenital kidney or liver defects
- Other serious hereditary conditions affecting quality of life or long-term mobility
4. Parent Health Testing
All breeding Cane Corso dogs undergo comprehensive health testing prior to being bred:
- OFA Hip Evaluation (to screen for hip dysplasia)
- OFA Elbow Evaluation (to assess elbow joint health)
- Cardiac Examination by a licensed veterinarian or veterinary cardiologist
- OFA Eye Examination (to screen for hereditary eye conditions)
- Genetic Testing (including PRA and other breed-relevant hereditary conditions)
- Full Embark DNA Panel (200+ genetic conditions where applicable)
- Brucellosis testing prior to each breeding
- Structural and movement evaluation to ensure sound conformation appropriate for a large-breed working dog
5. Claim Process
To file a health guarantee claim for a Cane Corso puppy:
- Veterinary Examination: The puppy must be examined by a licensed veterinarian within 72 hours of arrival.
- Diagnosis Documentation: Provide written veterinary records confirming the condition is congenital or hereditary.
- Notify the Breeder: Contact us within 7 days of diagnosis and submit all supporting documentation.
- Second Opinion: We may request an evaluation from a specialist of our choosing, at our expense, to verify the diagnosis.
- Resolution: Upon confirmation, a replacement puppy of equal value will be offered from a future litter, in accordance with the health guarantee terms.
6. Exclusions & Limitations
The following are NOT covered under the Cane Corso health guarantee:
- Illness caused by viruses, bacteria, or parasites contracted after the puppy leaves our care
- Injuries, accidents, poisoning, or conditions caused by neglect or improper care
- Umbilical hernias, undescended testicles, cherry eye, or other minor cosmetic or non-life-threatening conditions
- Allergies, food sensitivities, skin conditions, or environmental reactions
- Conditions resulting from failure to maintain recommended vaccinations or veterinary care
- Behavioral issues, temperament concerns, or training-related challenges
- Puppies surrendered, rehomed, or transferred without breeder approval
- Joint or orthopedic issues resulting from obesity, overexertion, improper exercise, or lack of appropriate care for a large-breed dog
7. Buyer Responsibilities
To maintain the validity of this health guarantee:
- Schedule a veterinary examination within 72 hours of receiving the puppy
- Maintain all vaccinations and routine veterinary care on schedule
- Feed a high-quality, large-breed appropriate diet to support healthy growth and joint development
- Provide proper socialization, structured training, exercise, and mental stimulation
- Spay/neuter by the agreed-upon age unless purchased with breeding rights
- Keep the puppy at a healthy weight (critical for Cane Corso joint and structural health)
- Use proper exercise management during growth, avoiding excessive high-impact activity that could strain developing joints
- Contact the breeder before rehoming or transferring ownership for any reason
8. 72-Hour Illness Policy
If your Cane Corso puppy becomes ill within the first 72 hours of arrival due to a pre-existing or congenital condition, we will review the case and may cover reasonable veterinary expenses up to the purchase price or offer a replacement puppy of equal value, depending on veterinary findings and documentation.
